Behaviour, transparency and self-regulation codes:
Two ways to protect European consumers, legislation and self-regulation.
It is obvious that most rules affecting the market are based on legal systems, but the market can also be governed by a voluntary regulation based on agreements and self-control pacts.
Although too much control from public authorities could affect the market, it obvious that the market needs rules and a governing body to face the changes in it.
The co-regulation or the agreements between companies offering financial services and consumers would mean that consumers, through consumer associations, have enough information to acknowledge and claim their rights and that the legal system makes them play an important role in their configuration.
